How does Texas legislature work?
In the Texas Senate, the legislative process begins when a senator files a bill, which is then assigned to a relevant committee by the Lieutenant Governor. The committee holds hearings, can amend the bill, and must approve it before it moves forward. If passed out of committee, the bill goes to the full Senate for debate and a vote. If it receives a majority vote (at least 16 of 31 senators), it moves to the Texas House for consideration. If both chambers pass the bill in identical form, it goes to the Governor for approval or veto. The process is designed to be thorough and requires support from multiple stages to become law.
The head of the Senate in Texas wants to ban intoxicating cannabinoids and has introduced SB3 in order set strict regulations if not banned. This bill quickly passed in the Senate. Next, the bill has to pass in the House. In order to pass in the House, a subcommittee meeting must be held. During the first subcommittee, over 1,500 business owners, and other opposers of the bill showed up to show their opposition to this bill. Session ends in two weeks-the fate of the hemp industry in TX currently is in limbo.
